Gen Zers and Millennials Lead Across Major Digital Habits

Gen Zers and Millennials Lead Across Major Digital Habits

Note

Internet users are individuals of any age who use the internet from any location via any device at least once per month. Social networks are sites where the primary activities involve creating a profile and interacting with a network of contacts by sharing status updates, comments, photos, or other ... content. Generative AI (genAI) systems interpret user input to output text or media. Examples include generative pretrained transformer (GPT) tools such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot; conversational search interfaces such as Google’s AI Mode and Bing’s separate AI search interface; and other specialized genAI tools such as Amazon’s Alexa for Shopping, Character.AI, and Nano Banana. AI-powered search summaries (e.g., Google AI Overviews) and AI-powered search results in social platforms (e.g., Meta AI in Facebook) are excluded. Legacy voice assistants (e.g., Amazon Alexa, Apple’s Siri) are excluded, even when powered by genAI. Podcasts are audio-first, serialized episodes designed to be fully experienced through listening alone. They may be distributed on video platforms, but if visual elements are required, the content is considered a video program. Internet users who listen to or watch podcasts via video platforms (e.g., YouTube) are included.

Methodology

Estimates are based on the analysis of survey and web traffic data from research firms and regulatory agencies, the growth trajectory of major social networks, historical trends, internet and mobile adoption trends, and country-specific demographic and socioeconomic factors.
