Select Expenditures of US Gen X* vs. Total Households, 2019

Methodology

Data is from the September 2020 US Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics "Consumer Expenditure Survey: Annual Report 2019." Data collection is carried out by the US Census Bureau under contract with the Bureau of Labor Statistics. An interview survey is conducted wherein each consumer unit is interviewed every 3 months over 4 calendar quarters. This portion of the survey is designed to obtain data on the types of expenditures respondents can recall for a period of 3 months or longer and include relatively large purchases. Respondents are also asked to keep track of their purchases made each day for 2 consecutive one-week periods for a diary survey. This survey is meant to capture data on frequently purchased smaller items. Data is then integrated when possible.
