Description

This chart shows the penetration rate of various media and online platforms among the UK population including internet users, video viewers, smartphone users, social network users (Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat) and digital audio listeners among others.

Note

Internet users are individuals of any age who use the internet from any location via any device at least once per month. Digital video viewers are internet users of any age who watch digital video content via any device at least once per month. Smartphone users are individuals of any age who own at ... least one smartphone and use the smartphone(s) at least once per month. Smartphone are any voice handset with an advanced operating system (e.g., Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Windows Phone) and features/capabilities that resemble a PC. Tablet users are individuals of any age who use a tablet at least once per month. Tablets are touchscreen devices with a color display ranging 5-14 inches, a Wi-Fi connection or mobile data plan and an advanced operating system such as Android, BlackBerry, iOS or Windows. Though some have detachable keyboards, touch is the primary interface. Excludes devices with a cellular voice connection. Examples include Amazon Kindle Fire, Apple iPad, Google Nexus 7 or 10, Microsoft Surface and Samsung Galaxy Tab. Social network users are internet users of any age who use social networks via any device at least once per month. Social networks are sites where the primary activities involve creating a profile and interacting with a network of contact by sharing status updates, comments, photos or other content. Digital audio listeners are internet users of any age who listen to music or other audio content (i.e., podcasts) via live-streaming on any device or via direct download on mobile devices at least once per month. Facebook users are internet users of any age who access their Facebook account via any device at least once per month. Digital gamers are internet users of any age who play games online at least once per month via any device; includes mobile app and browser gaming, online console gaming and gaming on social networks. Instagram users are internet users of any age who access their Instagram account via any device at least once per month. Snapchat users are mobile phone users of any age who access their Snapchat account via mobile phone app at least once per month. Twitter users are internet users of any age who access their Twitter account via any device at least once per month.More
