The news: Instagram’s user acquisition growth is vastly outpacing Facebook’s in the EU, Meta’s latest Digital Services Act (DSA) report shows.

• In H1 2026, Instagram had 296.8 million active users in the EU. That’s up 2.8% from 288.7 million users in H2 2025.
• Meanwhile, Facebook had 263.5 million active users, up only 0.4% from 262.5 million.

We expect Facebook will have more worldwide users than Instagram this year, though it will grow slower—similar to Meta platform trends in the EU.

• Instagram’s global user base will reach 1.75 billion, up 4.8% YoY, per our forecast.
