The news: Reddit expanded access for its AI-powered Max campaigns to all advertisers after a beta testing phase and added several new features.
Max campaigns use Reddit Community Intelligence and machine learning to optimize audience targeting, creative rotation, placements, and budgets, as well as generate creative for Reddit-based campaigns.
Brands that have used Max campaigns had a 17% lower cost per action (CPA) and over 27% more conversions, per a Reddit blog post.
The three new features:
We expect Reddit’s US ad revenues will reach $2.28 billion in 2026, although it will account for just 1.7% of total social network ad spending. By comparison, Meta will account for 76.1%.
Why it matters: Google and Meta are selling performance marketing through automated targeting and optimization of creative, budget, and placements. Expanding Max could help Reddit compete with them and get advertisers to see its platform as more than an incremental, experimental social channel.
Rather than trying to compete by matching Google’s or Meta’s size, Reddit is expanding Max capabilities to offer advertisers a compelling reason to diversify performance marketing and social budgets. Its combination of user communities and authenticity-rooted reputation is an asset that neither Google nor Meta has, despite their vastly more mature ad machines.
Recommendations for advertisers: As automation becomes table stakes, evaluate platforms based on audience assets, campaign goals, and proven outcomes.
