The news:LinkedIn is the latest social networking service to face fines in the EU for significant breaches of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) fined the Microsoft-owned platform €310 million ($335.5 million).
The DPC determined LinkedIn’s tracking ads violated rules on “lawfulness, fairness, and transparency.” Its use of “consent” and “legitimate interests” for behavioral ads was also ruled invalid.
