CTV ad innovation or overreach? Roku’s autoplay ads spark backlash.

The news: Roku is testing autoplay video ads before users reach the home screen, calling them “expected behavior” but not permanent. Annoyed users are calling the ads “unacceptable” and “intrusive,” per Ars Technica.

Roku, like other connected TV (CTV) providers, is capitalizing on the booming CTV ad market, which we projected would quadruple from 2020 to 2026.
