Women’s portrayal in advertising is worsening—but their spending power is growing

The news: The 2025 Gender in Advertising Report from CreativeX highlights the ongoing issue of gender stereotyping in advertising—and the need to revolutionize how women are depicted.

  • 71% of women in advertisements globally were portrayed in domestic or family roles in 2024, while only 20% were shown in professional and leadership settings. Those figures are down from 67% and 27% in 2023, respectively.
  • This gap is even starker in the US, where 95% of women were portrayed in domestic or family roles and only 3.3% were portrayed in professional and leadership settings.
