Flash Take: 3 key tech takeaways from Apple’s March 8 event

Apple held its first virtual event for 2022 and unveiled the iPhone SE with 5G, a new iPad Air featuring the M1 processor, and a prosumer Mac Studio featuring the new Apple M1 Ultra processor as well as a new 27-inch 5K Studio Display.

We detail 3 key tech takeaways:

1. Apple is now a video content studio

Apple has moved on from its focus on music to movies and shows for its Apple TV+ streaming service. The company that used to end its events with musical guests and celebrate song downloads and streams is now a bona fide content studio.

  • Apple CEO Tim Cook started today’s “Peek Performance” event focusing on various shows, movies, and performances by its stable of talent and the awards and nominations Apple TV properties have received.
  • The company’s big announcement was that it secured Friday Night Baseball to show two Major League Baseball games on Friday nights during the regular season for subscribers in the US, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Korea, and the UK. However, the MLB is currently in a lockout that could end up canceling the entire season, complicating Apple's aspirations.
