The news: Shein will reenter India nearly five years after India's Ministry of Information Technology banned the retailer and dozens of other Chinese apps over national security and data privacy concerns, per Business Insider.

The company partnered with multinational conglomerate Reliance Industries to operate in the Indian market under a new platform called Shein India Fast Fashion.

The context: Shein’s reentry into India comes at the same time the company faces significant challenges in both the US—its largest consumer market—and the EU.
