Merging HBO Max and Paramount+ will do little for CTV ad gains

The news: HBO Max and Paramount+ will merge into a single streaming platform under Skydance, the new media giant resulting from Paramount’s Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition.

The platforms will be available as a streaming bundle for a short period and will “unify into a single service over time,” according to Skydance.

What it will look like: A combined Paramount+ and HBO Max app will consolidate the new company’s streaming scale into a single service, but that alone won’t make Skydance a major source of CTV ad dollars.

  • Paramount+ will have 94.4 million US viewers this year, per our forecast, while HBO Max will have just over 100 million.
