Instagram wakes up to importance of search, consumer demand for content discovery

The news: Instagram is aware that its search function lags behind competitors, and it’s finally doing something about it.

  • Instagram head Adam Mosseri admitted on a podcast that the app’s content search is “not very good” and said the platform is working to help content creators surface better both within the app and in external engines like Google Search.
  • Meta is expanding the team dedicated to Instagram search and plans to start rolling out changes over the coming months and years.
