Google’s AI sweep removed nearly 40 million malicious advertisers in 2024

The news: Google suspended 39.2 million advertiser accounts in 2024—more than triple the 12.7 million banned in 2023—by deploying over 50 large language models (LLMs) across its ad systems.

The AI upgrade also resulted in faster detection of evolving fraud tactics, making enforcement more proactive.

Why it’s worth watching: These AI tools powered 97% of ad enforcement decisions, flagging issues like scam behavior, false medical claims, data misuse, and trademark violations to enforce brand safety. Most accounts were stopped before a single ad ran, per Google’s 2024 Ads Safety Report.
