Germany’s TV market finds its balance: Linear holds scale as streaming slowly matures

The news: Germany’s video market saw linear TV retaining its grip on live programming in 2025. Meanwhile, streaming time rose modestly, from six to eight minutes per day, per AGF Videoforschung.

  • Linear reached 55.5% of the population ages 3 and older daily, or 43.8 million viewers, despite average viewing time falling 7.7% YoY to 158 minutes per day. Among 14- to 49-year-olds, linear viewing declined more sharply to 67 minutes, revealing a generational shift.
  • Live sports remained the strongest reach driver. The Germany vs. Spain Women’s European Championship soccer match drew 14.6 million viewers and a 57% market share, rising to 68.2% among 14- to 49-year-olds.
