Gen Z feels the most pressure to keep up with health and wellness trends

The trend: Seven in 10 Gen Zers feel pressure to keep up with the latest health and wellness trends, the highest share of any generation, according to a June Talker Research survey for The Vitamin Shoppe. That compares with 60% of millennials, 48% of Gen Xers, and 32% of baby boomers who said the same.

Why it matters: Gen Z's perceived need to keep up with health and wellness trends mirrors their frequent exposure to health content. Nearly two-thirds (63%) say they can't go a day without seeing or hearing about new health information, trends, or products, versus 50% of boomers, per Talker Research.

That pressure may stem from the flood of health information they encounter on social media. More than two-thirds (67%) of Gen Zers see healthcare ads on social media channels compared with 50% of millennials, 38% of Gen Xers, and 36% of baby boomers, per EMARKETER’s US Digital Health 2026 survey.

Amid the constant flow of health information, Gen Z is gravitating toward simple health goals. Talker found 77% plan to simplify their approach to wellness this year by focusing on foundational habits like sleep (48%), hydration (43%), and exercise and physical activity (38%). That differs from the 21% who plan to optimize or “biohack” their wellness with technology, tracking, or specialized supplements and performance tools.

Implications for health and wellness brands: Gen Z's shift toward simpler wellness habits gives brands an opportunity to reflect that preference in both their products and messaging. A smaller lineup of products may resonate more than digital and in-store shelves crowded with similar options, for instance.

There's also an opportunity to simplify product claims for Gen Zers inundated with health information and ads. As health claims become harder for consumers to evaluate, brands that communicate a single, evidence-backed benefit with clarity are likely to stand out more than crowded marketing messages with multiple unsupported promises.
