Fiserv steadies Clover and core banking, cuts 3,000 roles

The news: Fiserv showed signs of turning a new leaf after a year of turmoil.

Clover revenues grew at 1% YoY for Q3 2026, while Clover gross payment volume (GPV) was up 11% YoY (excluding gateway conversions). But Fiserv forecast double-digit Clover revenue growth for Q4—a pace not seen since Q4 2025.

Fiserv has also improved its core banking net attrition rate, and new business jumped by 50% YoY.

Why this matters: Fiserv is still coming off multiple quarters of underperformance, client backlash over excessive fees,  lawsuits from security lapses, and overexposure to the Argentinian market crisis. GAAP revenues were down 1% YoY in Q3, and earnings per share fell 14% YoY.

CEO Takis Georgakapoulos said the company has culled 3,000 employee and contractor positions since June. Senior management positions made up more than 10% of those cuts, per the earnings call.

But new initiatives are helping Fiserv change the narrative.

  • The company announced the impending launch of Clover for Enterprise, a full-stack program that unifies online and in-store checkout to improve omnichannel operations—helping Clover break into the market of larger merchants with multiple locations.
  • And Fiserv doubled its cost-savings target for its AI initiative, Project Elevate, to $1 billion.

Implications for POS providers: Fiserv’s recovery hinges not just on cost savings but on convincing clients to trust it. While attrition has slowed down, rebuilding client relationships will take a long-term strategy that AI solutions can’t repair overnight.

Clover’s push into enterprise omnichannel payments should also put other POS providers on notice. As Clover expands beyond its SMB roots, other established omnichannel providers need to demonstrate how their systems stand out from Fiserv’s upcoming release.
