Facebook ads offer marketers a lower-cost complement to Google campaigns

The news: Facebook ads are getting cheaper and more effective, according to an analysis from WordStream of about 1,800 Facebook ad campaigns over the past year.

  • The average cost-per-click (CPC) for Facebook ads for traffic campaigns across industries is $0.60, according to the analysis—14.29% lower than last year’s $0.70 average.
  • That makes Facebook’s CPC notably lower than Google Ads’, which WordStream places at $5.42 this year.
  • Meanwhile, average clickthrough rates (CTRs) on Facebook are increasing; across campaigns, CTRs grew 12.9% YoY to 1.93%, up from 1.71% a year prior.
  • Average conversion rates (CVRs) declined only slightly by 0.98% YoY to 8.54%, above Google’s 8.18% rate.
