Amex throws its hat into the media network ring, chasing luxury and travel ad dollars

The news: American Express debuted Amex Ads, a new digital advertising platform that allows brands to connect with its 34 million customers, per a press release. Amex Ads will go live on AmexTravel.com before spreading to other Amex platforms.

Why this matters: Network providers are dipping into the commerce media network (CMN) space, with Mastercard launching its own program in concert with Citi, WPP, and American Airlines. 

With Mastercard promoting tie-ins for ads like additional miles for American Airlines travel, Amex’s robust travel platform likely wants to counter those offers with rewards of its own.
