Additional Note: Other auto and parts includes sales of motor vehicles that are not classified as automobiles or light trucks (e.g., sport utility vehicles and passenger or cargo vans), as well as their parts and accessories. Examples include all-terrain vehicles, boats, mopeds, motorcycles, personal watercrafts, snowmobiles, powered golf carts, and recreational vehicles such as campers. Both new and used vehicle sales are included. Customized vehicles that are sold directly by manufacturers and not available to mass consumers through retail stores, such as superyachts, are excluded. EMARKETER benchmarks its US total retail sales figures against US Department of Commerce data from 2018 onward. The last full year measured was 2024.
Methodology: Estimates are based on the analysis of data from other research firms and government agencies, historical trends, reported and estimated revenues of major online retailers, consumer online buying trends, and macro-level economic conditions.
