YouTube’s AI tools turn discovery and creation into conversational experiences

The news: YouTube is rolling out a slate of updates it announced at Made in YouTube, including expansions of its AI offerings.

On the consumer side:

  • Ask YouTube: The conversational search tool can now generate interactive product recommendations and comparisons when users search for specific items.
  • Custom feeds: Users can create a personalized algorithm by typing a description in natural language, which Gemini then turns into a feed based around a specific interest or action.

By letting product discovery happen inside AI-generated responses and hyperpersonalized feeds, YouTube’s intelligence becomes a powerful intermediary in the shopping and content exploration process.

On the creator side:

  • Conversational editing: The tool uses natural language requests to help creators edit both short- and long-form content, including adding text overlays, removing speech pauses, or syncing music. It can also offer editing suggestions.
  • Profile optimization: Agentic AI can monitor content backlogs and spot posts that could be relevant to current trends. It then offers suggestions on thumbnail and title alterations.

These new AI tools will help reduce creation barriers and let brands and influencers churn out more posts, but they also risk creating a feeling of sameness in content across the platform.

Recommendations for brands: AI is breaking out of the background and turning into a platform interface, making optimization a must-have to engage with users.

  • Ensure product information and creator content includes detailed descriptions, use cases, brand information, and price to surface in AI answers.
  • Define specific topic niches for videos to appear more prominently in custom feeds where user interests may be highly calibrated.
  • Invest time saved with AI editing and optimization tools by creating distinctive concepts to avoid producing AI slop.
