Why the Thomson Reuters ruling could redefine AI fair use standards

The news: Thomson Reuters won a landmark AI copyright case against Ross Intelligence in a stunning decision that could turn the tide on existing and future AI copyright lawsuits.

In 2020, Thomson Reuters sued Ross Intelligence, accusing it of infringing on Westlaw, a competing service owned by the former and used by lawyers in over 60 countries. It aimed to copy Thomson Reuters’ curated research and legal analyses to build a competing product.
