TikTok rolls out Dreamina Seedance 2.5 as platforms race to automate production

The news: TikTok launched Dreamina Seedance 2.5, a video-generation model “to help advertisers tackle more ambitious creative ideas” without leaving the TikTok ecosystem, the company stated in a blog post.

  • The ByteDance model can create videos of up to 30 seconds, doubling the previous 15-second maximum in Seedance 2.0.
  • Dreamina Seedance 2.5 accepts up to 50 multimodal references—an increase from nine in previous models—including images, videos, and audio.
  • The model offers “sharper, more realistic imagery” and a deeper understanding of product context, proportions, and scene composition.

Why it matters: Dreamina Seedance 2.5 extends ByteDance’s AI stack directly into advertiser workflows, reducing reliance on external creative tools and increasing platform lock-in.

ByteDance is internalizing every step of creative production, from ideation and scripting to video generation and campaign deployment. That capability makes TikTok more self-sufficient as an advertising platform and helps it own the entire AI creative workflow.

Zooming out: Major media providers are racing to make AI generation native to their services to gain more advertiser data, original content in user feeds, and influence over campaign optimization. Meta is building end-to-end AI ad creation and Google is embedding genAI across YouTube.

However, TikTok’s video-generation push stands in contrast to the steps that some other platforms are taking to crack down on AI content, especially when it’s perceived by users as AI slop.

  • Snapchat recently stopped surfacing wholly AI-generated content inside Spotlight.
  • LinkedIn introduced a “Seems like AI slop” reporting option for users.
  • Substack added an AI detection tool for newsletter content.

Recommendations for brands: The selection of AI tools that support improved content consistency, longer video generation, better adherence to product context, and fewer manual corrections is growing. This makes it easier to produce large volumes of creative that can jump on social trends and reach broad audiences.

  • Explore the benefits of generating, editing, and launching campaigns within one ecosystem rather than exporting assets between multiple vendors and editing software systems.
  • Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of Dreamina Seedance 2.5 to see where it can advance social content creation and where human-made creative is a better solution.
