Sports streaming surges 52% as rights fragment and ad budgets shift

The data: Sports content is quickly shifting to digital, with sports program offerings on the top five SVOD platforms up 52% YoY in the first quarter of 2026, per Nielsen’s Gracenote.

The top streamers by global sports content share include:

  • Amazon (38.5%)
  • Netflix (25.9%)
  • Disney+ (23.7%)
  • Paramount+ (10.3%)
  • Apple TV (1.6%)

While not among the top three, Paramount+ is a rising contender. Sports content on the platform was up 219% YoY, attributed to a deal with the UFC. Disney+’s sports content, meanwhile, fell 23% YOY.

Free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) platforms grew 30% YoY in overall sports shows.
