Reddit leans on community voices, AI to reinvent ad targeting

The news: Reddit rolled out two AI-driven ad tools—Reddit Insights and Conversation Summary Add-ons—to tap into its massive archive of user conversations to help brands reach more audiences effectively, per Reuters.

Reddit is using generative AI (genAI) to distill user sentiment and track subreddit trends for sharper ad targeting.

  • Reddit Insights, which is powered by real-time community intelligence, is where brands can track trends and test marketing ideas.
  • Conversation Summary Add-ons “dynamically integrates positive content from Reddit users directly below an advertiser’s creative, putting community conversations front and center … and blending AI-driven efficiency with real human perspectives,” Reddit stated.

Reddit’s community tools could disrupt traditional ad targeting by prioritizing group sentiment over individual data. Publicis, Hershey, Comcast, Jackbox Games, and Lucid Motors are among early testers.

Why it’s worth watching: With its large base of over 22 billion posts and comments, Reddit is turning to AI to make its community data accessible at scale.
