The news: Pinterest announced two features this week to build a stronger commerce layer around visual intent.
Creator content promotions let brands highlight eligible Creator Pins, including content from influencers they’re not yet partnering with. Creators will be notified when a brand wants to do so and can opt out at the account level. This builds on Promote a Pin.
And AI-driven Beauty Guides analyze hair and nail Pins and then offer guidance such as what to ask for at the salon, similar looks, relevant products, and step-by-step instructions. It’s available to US iOS users, with access coming to more regions, users, and categories in the future.
Users may know what they want before they have the words for it, and Pinterest is tackling that friction point by turning vague inspiration into actionable product demand.
Why it matters: AI-guided and creator-validated discovery surfaces can improve personalization and direct monetization. Rather than trying to copy a full marketplace model like those found on TikTok Shop or Facebook Marketplace, Pinterest is building a softer but still powerful alternative.
Recommendations for brands: Creator-assisted trust and consideration could boost reach and engagement beyond traditional, branded ads. Promote a few posts to see how specific influencers affect conversions, and explore paid partnerships.
With Beauty Guides, optimize product descriptions and visual assets to boost relevance in AI recommendations. Clear use cases can support more helpful AI-generated instructions and guidance for users.
However, brands should avoid alienating creators by promoting posts without considering brand alignment or creator identity; brands should also avoid oversaturating consumers’ feeds with ads that make organic discovery feel commercial.
