Hulu joins the podcast licensing race to compete with Netflix, YouTube

The news: Podcast competition among digital video providers is heating up as Hulu enters the video podcast licensing space. The platform has struck an agreement with comedy podcast “We’re Here to Help,” reports Deadline; the show will stream twice weekly on Hulu beginning next week.

  • Hulu will have streaming rights to all new episodes of “We’re Here to Help,” as well as existing content. New episodes will premiere on Hulu a day before becoming available on YouTube and audio platforms.
  • Hulu isn’t entirely new to podcasts: It made similar moves in 2025 when it debuted a podcast offering behind-the-scenes details on original programming like “Only Murders in the Building.” But licensing a standalone video podcast is a different play that puts Hulu closer to YouTube’s video-first podcast strategy than to the behind-the-scenes pods long offered by Netflix and HBO.

Competition heats up: Hulu’s move into video podcast licensing mirrors competitor Netflix, as both look to make gains on top podcast platform YouTube.

  • Netflix launched its first original video podcast last month starring comedian Pete Davidson—though it is video-only and unavailable on audio services. The move followed a partnership with iHeartMedia that gave Netflix exclusive rights to stream over 15 of the top iHeartMedia podcasts.
  • The agreement came shortly after Netflix inked a similar deal with Spotify, which gave the streaming giant the opportunity to showcase select Spotify video podcasts.
