Google Wallet adds passport, transit card integrations and expands acceptance network

The news: Google Wallet enhanced its travel features in an effort to improve its utility, per a press release.

  • The company will soon let consumers save their US passports as a digital ID in their wallets. The feature is in beta testing and works at select TSA checkpoints for domestic flights.
  • Google is also bringing its state-issued ID capabilities to Iowa, New Mexico, and Ohio. And it’s expanding its network of places that will accept the digital IDs.
  • It’s also integrating more transit cards. In the US, users can add select prepaid commuter benefit cards to the wallet. This feature is also coming to Germany and Hong Kong.
