The news: The EU’s General Court annulled a €1.49 ($1.61) billion antitrust fine imposed on Google following an appeal from the Big Tech company.
The fine was imposed by the European Commission (EC) in 2019 and concerned alleged exclusivity clauses in Google’s ad contracts that let it control how rivals’ search ads appear online.
According to Google, those provisions were removed from contracts in 2016 and only involved a small number of publishers’ websites.
