In fact, 21.4% of females said it never leaves their hands, and almost as many males (19.3%) agreed. What's more, over a third of respondents said they check their device every few minutes.

Online buying scams were the biggest type of consumer fraud in 2017, according to the Better Business Bureau's annual scam-tracking report, up from fourth place a year earlier. The rise of digital shopping and growing comfort with sharing personal information online are factors in this growing category of fraud.

Revamped Market: Data from Counterpoint Technology Market Research reveals that the global refurbished smartphone market is growing, increasing 13% year over year in 2017. "Refurbished smartphones are now close to 10% of the total global smartphone market," said Counterpoint research director Tom Kang in a statement. "The low growth of the new smartphone market in 2017 can be partially attributed to the growth of the refurb market."
