According to a recent public health warning issued by the US surgeon general, social media could have negative effects on the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents. To put that into context, we’ve compiled five charts that show the current state of Gen Zers’ mental health, how they feel about social media, and their willingness to receive care.

Over 40% of Gen Zers have been diagnosed with a mental health condition.

  • Of those Gen Zers, 9 in 10 experience anxiety and nearly 8 in 10 experience depression, according to Harmony Healthcare IT.
  • Nearly 70% of US adult Gen Zers feel the pandemic harmed their mental health.
  • Of those who were diagnosed with a mental health condition, more than 1 in 4 (26%) were diagnosed during the pandemic (from March 2020 or later).
