ChatGPT conversations run long on GLP-1 brands and side effects

The data: Typical GLP-1 conversations on ChatGPT average 9 to 10 total messages back and forth, according to Measure Protocol analysis shared with EMARKETER covering roughly 16,000 user-driven conversations in 2025. That rises to 24 messages when users name a specific drug brand and 17 when they discuss side effects. Conversations about cost and access remain close to the typical length, averaging 10 messages.

For broader context, a widely cited academic study of more than 1 million publicly collected chatbot conversations found that general conversations averaged roughly 2 to 3 exchanges.

Why it matters: Consumers have the longest GLP-1 conversations with ChatGPT when researching specific brands and side effects. ChatGPT may play a significant role as consumers narrow treatment options to discuss with doctors and weigh potential risks and benefits.

The focus on drugs and side effects is consistent with broader AI health research. Close to 40% of respondents who use AI tools to look up health information use them to research prescription and OTC drugs, including side effects and treatment options, per EMARKETER’s January 2026 US Digital Health survey.

Implications for pharma and GLP-1 marketers: GLP-1 conversations on ChatGPT can continue throughout the treatment journey, supporting users as their questions and needs evolve. Over the course of an extended conversation, users can move from broad questions to specific concerns about brands, side effects, cost, access, and what to expect from treatment. Each follow-up creates another opportunity for relevant information to shape the response.

That makes it important to plan for questions that follow an initial query. Broad awareness content may introduce a category or brand, but clear, consistent information about safety, eligibility, affordability, and the treatment experience can help meet consumers’ needs as the conversation becomes more specific.
