The news:Publishers are unhappy with the ad revenues they’re seeing from Apple News compared to the engagement they receive and despite Apple’s push to sell more ad inventory, per Digiday.
Despite operating as a useful traffic referral source for publishers, ad revenues on Apple News are “shockingly abysmal” in comparison to the platform’s audience, an anonymous publishing exec told Digiday.
Per the executive, ad revenues from Apple News are in the “low hundreds of thousands a year, when it would be millions if it were [on-site] traffic.” Another four publishing execs stated that they haven’t seen any boost in revenues since Apple News began selling its ad inventory in November.
