Amex will integrate Tock into Resy, deepening personalization and experiential rewards

The news: American Express announced new rollouts for Resy, including Tock’s integration with the platform by this summer, per a press release.

  • All Tock restaurants and wineries will live under the Resy app, bringing Resy’s total bookable venues to over 25,000.
  • Tock’s popular features such as tiered and prepaid experiences will also move into the Resy app and website.
  • Amex intends to widen the scope of Resy’s “Discover” Tab, a culinary discovery resource, to highlight these additional venues and experiences.

Amex bought Tock back in June 2024 from Squarespace for $400 million.

Inside the other updates: Beyond reshuffling Tock’s position within its network, Amex also deepened ties with different providers and launched new perks for cardholders.

  • A comprehensive AI-powered tech stack. The issuer plans to integrate the full dining journey—from AI-powered discovery and booking to POS—within one platform. This strategically positions Resy as 65% of Gen Zers turn to AI as a replacement for Google Search, per a Harvard Business Review and The Walton Family Foundation survey conducted by Gallup. It also gives restaurants personalization tools and increased efficiency.
  • New digital channels and loyalty programs. Amex cardholders can anticipate more rewards for their T&E spending with loyalty programs through Resy. This may help the issuer boost this segment's volume, as goods and services growth outpaced travel and entertainment spend in fiscal 2025.
  • Resy and Toast partnership. Amex users will be able to book reservations through Local by Toast, widening visibility for Toast and Resy venues. Toast’s Digital Chits will also link to Resy, letting servers read personalized notes on their Toast POS or handheld devices. This deepens possibilities for personalized service, e.g., remembering a patron’s favorite wine vintage or dietary restrictions.
  • Increased experiential rewards. Cardholders can also anticipate more exclusive Platinum Nights at in-demand restaurants and insider events at select pop-ups. Resy Credit will be extended to Tock locations, broadening cardholders’ ability to redeem rewards.

Implications for issuers: Amex’s investment into its experiential, personalized, and AI-driven dining experiences puts the ball back into rivals’ courts to match its rewards’ impact.

For issuers without in-house reservation platforms, a strategic partnership with DoorDash-owned SevenTables or Booking.com’s OpenTable could help elevate up-and-coming card portfolios to a new level of prestige.
