More Cashierless Stores: After opening a cashierless convenience store in Seattle roughly a month ago, Amazon is reportedly planning to open six more locations in 2018, Recode reports. Sources familiar with the plans said the ecommerce giant will likely open stores in Los Angeles and Seattle. 

Less Toy Stores: After announcing plans to close approximately 180 of its locations last month, Toys "R" Us is planning to close another 200, and to lay off "a significant portion of its corporate staff following a disappointing holiday sales season," The Wall Street Journal reports. According to eMarketer's Retail Database, Toys "R" Us' comparable sales declined 4.5% in Q3 2017.

Not Everything Is About Ecommerce: In a conversation with CNBC, Target CEO Brian Cornell said that "ecommerce isn't everything, [and] for the foreseeable future, the majority of US retail sales will still take place in stores." Per our database, Target's comparables grew 0.9% in Q3 2017.
