Advertisers strike back at the FTC after scathing regulatory report

The news: The Association of National Advertisers sent a letter to the FTC criticizing its report that called for aggressive regulation of the ad industry.

In his letter, executive vice president Christopher Oswald said current digital advertising and data collection standards provide benefits by connecting consumers with products they need and allowing businesses of all sizes to flourish, lowering advertising prices across the board.

Looming regulation: The FTC’s late September report was a warning for the digital ad industry, which is relatively unregulated in the US but has faced increased scrutiny in recent months. While the upcoming presidential election makes the report’s impact uncertain, the ad industry is shoring up its arguments just in case.
