Note

Data was provided to Insider Intelligence by Morning Consult.

Methodology

Data is from the July 2021 Morning Consult report. Approximately 6,000 US adults ages 18+ were surveyed online during July 28, 2020-July 25, 2021. Morning Consult asks five questions relating to personal finances and business conditions in the country as a whole, and inputs the values into an index. Index of Consumer Sentiment data is the overall measurement based on the results of all five questions. Data is represented in five-day moving averages, which are daily averages of the current day combined with the previous four days to create a smoothed trend over time, strengthening the signal in the daily data. The seven-day moving averages for new coronavirus cases have the similar concept.
