Change in Number of US Baby Boomers Who Have Retired, 2012-2020 (millions)

Note

The retired Baby Boomer population is based on the average of July, August, and September estimate of the US Census Bureau's Current Population Survey (CPS).

Methodology

Data is from a November 2020 Pew Research Center analysis of the US Census Bureau's "Current Population Survey (CPS)" as cited in company blog. Data is averaged from the Monthly CPS for July, August, and September, conducted by the US Census Bureau for the Bureau of Labor Statistics, for which 60,000 US respondents ages 16+, as a representative for their household, are surveyed in-person and via telephone each year.
