Footwear retailer Payless, which filed for bankruptcy last year, is relaunching its brand with a new ecommerce site and brick-and-mortar ambitions.
Following bankruptcies of other retail stalwarts from a bygone era like Sears, Toys "R" Us and Mattress Firm, Payless’ demise doesn’t come as a shock, yet it is another cautionary tale of a retailer that failed to evolve its brand.
Even though PR stunts can be polarizing, brands keep foisting them onto the public. In a survey conducted by OnBrand and Bynder, only 12% of US and UK marketers considered guerrilla marketing an exciting trend to explore this year. Tangentially related tactics like influencer marketing and brand activism had far more appeal.
