For the first time, US adults will spend more time per day with digital video than with TV this year, according to our forecast, as the cord-cutting revolution takes hold. Total time spent with digital video and TV will remain just over 6 hours per day, the same amount it’s been since 2020.

Come 2024, the number of cord-cutters and cord-nevers, at 138.1 million, will surpass the pay TV viewership, at 129.3 million, in the US. The gap will continue to widen as more people say goodbye to traditional cable, satellite, or telecom live TV services.

US spending on linear TV ads will peak this year at $68.35 billion, up from $65.66 billion in 2021. This figure will not surpass $68 billion again for the next four years, with TV ad spend dropping to $64.94 billion in 2026 as its share of total media ad spend decreases as well.
