To promote its new NextGen Acela fleet, Amtrak invited students from New York School of Design to compete in a competition to produce “Trak Suits” in two categories: one couture look and one ready-to-wear for consumer purchase.
“Friday, Friday, Friday,” begins Amtrak’s recent viral social media video, in the retro style of monster truck ads. The content, which goes on to encourage train travel as summer begins (on Friday), has received over 500,000 shares across platforms, per Amtrak.
When Southwest Airlines announced they were charging for bags, Amtrak posted on X, “Guess we’re the only ones doing free baggage now.” The post, followed by more info on Amtrak’s baggage policy, is an example of what Amtrak senior manager of social media Nicolle Lopez calls its infotainment strategy, designed to educate and entertain at the same time.
