YouTube bets on brand safety, folds on risky gambling content

The news: YouTube is tightening its policies on gambling-related content to “protect viewers from potentially harmful content.”

  • Age restrictions are the biggest change, with signed-out users and viewers under 18 blocked from accessing gambling videos. However, content on online sports betting and in-person gambling remains exempt.
  • YouTube is setting stricter bans on unauthorized gambling-related links and references in creator-made videos. The measure bolsters its existing policies banning links to external sites that violate its guidelines.
