The trend:Two ecommerce giants are making strategic moves in France.
Fast-fashion giant Shein will open its first permanent French stores in November through a deal with department store operator Société des Grands Magasins. The rollout includes the BHV in central Paris and Galeries Lafayette in five other cities. For Shein, the move into physical retail marks a significant pivot point: Until now, its physical initiatives were limited to short-lived pop-ups in Forever 21 stores and elsewhere, and it regularly touted its online-only model and on-demand production as competitive strengths.
Amazon, meanwhile, is preparing to launch its Shein- and Temu-style Haul offering in France—its sixth market outside the US and the second in continental Europe after Germany, according to Fashion Network. Haul features products ranging from clothing to cosmetics with prices capped at €20 ($23.48). Delivery runs €3.50 ($4.11) and takes up to two weeks, but shipping is free for orders over €20.
