The news: Google said that the importance of European news content to Google’s business in the region is vastly overestimated and that it has no impact on ad revenues.
After an experiment in the EU that excluded news content from Search, News, and Discover for about 1% of users, Google said usage only dropped 0.8% and ad revenues didn’t change at all.
The company didn’t clarify if this test—which took place in Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain—will now be conducted in other regions.
