Gen Z’s focus on the here and now means most are unprepared for financial emergencies

The trend: In February, we covered Bankrate’s 2025 Emergency Savings Report. It has since updated its survey results, which highlight Gen Z’s lack of savings.

The breakdown: Gen Zers (ages 18 to 28) are more likely than older generations to have no or very little emergency savings, per the survey.

  • 34% of Gen Zers have no emergency savings compared to 28% of millennials, 24% of Gen Xers, and 16% of baby boomers.
