Employees who begrudge AI think it undermines their value

Key stat: A third of US employees who work against their company's generative AI (genAI) strategy do so because they feel the technology diminishes their value or creativity, according to December 2024 data from Writer.

Beyond the chart:

  • Almost a third (31%) of total US employees work against their company's AI strategy, per Writer.
  • Over three-fourths (77%) of Gen Zers worldwide believe that AI in the workplace will allow them to learn new skills, per July 2024 data from Top Employers Institute.

Use this chart: Stewards of companies' AI initiatives can use this chart to understand employees' attitudes towards the technology. They can tailor AI training to also enhance employees' skills and craft messaging around AI adoption to assuage these reactions.

Related EMARKETER reports:

Methodology: Data is from the March 2025 Writer report titled "Generative AI Adoption in the Enterprise." 1,600 knowledge workers in the US were surveyed from November 29 to December 24, 2024. The sample included 800 C-suite executives and 800 employees. Employees were required to be using generative AI tools at work, and executives were required to be working at a company that permits the use of these tools.
