Ecommerce’s share of overall grocery sales has more than doubled since the pandemic

The trend: Ecommerce is steadily gaining ground in the grocery industry, with our forecast projecting online grocery sales will account for 13.7% of total grocery sales this year, up from 13.0% last year and more than double the 6.2% share in 2019.

  • We expect US grocery ecommerce sales will hit $220.48 billion this year, an 8.3% YoY increase.
  • The category is proving resilient against macroeconomic headwinds that have slowed growth in other retail sectors. February marked the seventh straight month that ecommerce grocery sales exceeded $9.5 billion and the ninth consecutive period of YoY sales growth, per Brick Meets Click.
