The news: The challenging economic environment weighed on Domino’s in Q3 2026, with US same-store sales growing just 0.3%. That marks the third consecutive quarter in which sales growth fell below 1%.
The company expects further challenges ahead, forecasting US same-store sales growth toward the low end of the low-single-digit range.
Why it matters: Domino’s faced two headwinds during the quarter: a tougher comparison with last year and continued pressure on consumer budgets.
Still, new CEO Joe Jordan said Domino’s continued to gain share in the QSR pizza category, noting that “consumers remain under pressure, but they continue to choose Domino's.”
The challenge: The soft results come despite the high-profile launch of The Domino, a personal-size pizza designed for customers who don't want to order an entire pie. Domino’s sees the product as a way to capture more solo diners, particularly on third-party delivery platforms, where customers are often looking for an individual meal.
Domino’s has long relied on new menu items, such as parmesan stuffed crust pizza, to drive sales. But The Domino may not provide the same benefit both because the pizza’s price is comparable to that of its other pizzas and it is aimed at solo diners who may be less inclined to add additional items to their order.
Implications for QSR chains: Domino’s struggles should serve as a wake-up call for QSR chains and marketers, given that few chains have made a more explicit push around value. If even Domino’s is anticipating greater pressure on sales, competitors may face similar challenges as budget-conscious consumers weigh their options.
