The news: A sweeping AI safety bill was vetoed in California on Sunday.
Gov. Gavin Newsom said that Senate Bill 1047 focused too narrowly on expensive, large-scale models and that its framework ignored the dangers posed by models from startups.
He added that SB 1047 could have given the public a “false sense of security” about the government’s ability to control AI’s rapid development.
