Booking.com’s new co-brand credit card could attract value-conscious Gen Zers

The news: Booking.com launched the Genius Rewards Visa Signature co-brand credit card for Booking.com account holders.

The travel platform is working with Imprint to roll out the card. First Electronic Bank will be the issuer.

Welcome offers: Cardholders can earn $150 in travel credits after spending $1,500 within 90 days. They can get another $100 in travel credits if they spend more than $15,000 annually.

All enrollees also are immediately upgraded to Genius Level Three, Booking.com’s highest loyalty tier, which includes perks like 10% to 20% off bookings, free breakfast, room upgrades, and priority support.

Rewards: The Genius Rewards card offers travel credits based on spending categories. (One travel credit is equivalent to $1 to spend on Booking.com.)

  • Stays booked through Booking.com earn 6% back in travel credits.
  • Flights, car rentals, attractions, cruises, and airport taxis booked through Booking.com earn 5% back.
  • Purchases made during a stay booked on Booking.com earn 3% back.
  • Dining, gas, and groceries earn 3% back.
  • All other purchases earn 2% back.

The Genius Rewards Visa has no foreign transaction fees and offers travel protections like auto rental coverage, trip cancellation, and travel accident insurance.

Our take: Booking.com’s credit card offering should appeal to millennial and Gen Z consumers who are eager to travel and aren’t tethered to a specific airline’s or hotel franchise’s loyalty program.

Six in 10 Gen Zers cited inconsistent travel through one brand as their biggest driver not to enroll in a loyalty program, per an April AOG study—positioning Booking.com to capture brand-agnostic young adults.

Booking.com’s range of airline, hotel, and other travel-related service options across its platform can help funnel value-conscious travelers to select vacation options that fit their whims.
