Americans want to see Medicaid funding remain or increase, which may counter Trump administration’s budget plans

The news: More than 80% of people want Medicaid funding to stay the same or increase—42% want more and 40% favor the same level, per the latest KFF Health Tracking Poll. Majorities of Democrats, Republicans, independents, rural dwellers, and Trump voters support Medicaid. Two-thirds of Republicans say Medicaid spending should grow or stay flat.

Digging into the data: Almost everyone (97%) agrees Medicaid is at least somewhat important to their community.

  • This includes 4 in 10 Republicans and 45% of people who recently voted for President Trump.
